We are thrilled to announce the attendance of the following speakers. 

Professor Debbie Sharp, OBE

Professor Debbie Sharp is Professor of Primary Health Care in the Centre for Academic Primary Care at the University of Bristol.  She was the first woman to be appointed to a substantive chair in medicine in Bristol and built up a world-class department over the next sixteen years. She is Head of the School of Clinical Academic Training at HESW Severn where she has responsibility for academic training across all specialties.

Miss Deborah Eastwood

A consultant paediatric orthopaedic surgeon for over 15 years, Miss. Eastwood currently splits her time between Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedics Hospital at Stanmore. A former president of the European Paediatric Orthopaedic Society, Miss. Eastwood has over 70 peer reviewed scientific articles, numerous book chapters and is an editor of two textbooks.  Miss. Eastwood has a specialist interest in the management of club feet, dislocated hips and the overgrowth syndromes.

Miss Karen Daly

Karen is a Children’s Orthopaedic Surgeon based at St Georges NHS Healthcare Trust. She manages a clinical network providing specialist services to a greater part of SW London and beyond. She is an Associate Medical Director and Responsible Officer. She is Surgical lead for the Healthy London Partnership Children and Young persons Board and an appointed member of the NHSE Clinical Reference Group for Specialised Surgery in Children.

She qualified from Southampton in 1982 and trained in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the South West Thames program, did fellowship posts at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and was a visiting fellow at the Olga Hospital, Stuttgart in Germany.

Miss Deepa Bose

Ms. Deepa Bose qualified as a doctor from the University of Calcutta in 1990. She subsequently went to the UK for higher training. Upon completion of her orthopaedic training in Wales, she underwent subspecialist training in bone infection and limb reconstruction at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.

In 2009 she was appointed as a substantive consultant in University Hospitals Birmingham, where she currently works. Her practice includes general trauma, major trauma and post-traumatic limb reconstruction (osteomyelitis, malunion, non-union, limb lengthening). 


She also has a keen interest in medical education. She completed an MSc in Medical Education from Cardiff University in 2010 and is now Chair of the Specialist Training Committee for core surgical training in the West Midland region. She is also involved in teaching and assessment of postgraduate and undergraduate orthopaedic training in Birmingham. In addition, she has been an examiner for the College of Surgeons of East, Central & Southern Africa since 2008. Ms Bose gained the Diploma in Medical Care of Catastrophes from the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries in 2011. She has been on the International Emergency Trauma Register of the UK since 2012.

Professor Ashley Blom

Graduating from Cape Town University, Professor Blom received a Fellowship in Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery in 2003. In 2007 he succeeded Professor Learmouth as Head of the Orthopaedic Group of the University of Bristol and became the chairman of the North Bristol Trust Committee.  He was the first Orthopaedic Surgeon in the UK to be awarded a prestigious HEFCE Clinical Senior Lectureship.  In 2009 he was promoted to Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and has specialist research interests in outcomes of arthroplasty, the safety of orthopaedic implants and restitution of bone stock loss.
